Sandcastle Homecare should not exist today. Let me clarify, Sandcastle shouldn’t have to exist today. I’ll explain what I mean.
Back in 2012, my grandpa had just flown into town for my graduation. Couple days later, he had a stroke. At the hospital we found our that he had brain cancer. This turned my world upside down. He wasn’t just a grandfather to me. He was my hero who raised me.
We spent weeks at the hospital. He hated it, and we hated it. Even as his conditioned worsened, he kept insisting he wanted to go home. He wouldn’t take no for an answer. We took him home and did our best as a family to care for him, but we simply were not prepared or experienced enough. We needed professionals.
We called the top choices Google gave us in our area. Most agencies didn’t answer or return our call. The few that did were only interested in us if we agreed to their strict terms that included daily and weekly minimums on hours, no say in who came to work for us, cancellation restrictions and general lack of flexibility.
With few options, we took a chance on a franchise agency here in town. They quickly let us down. We hired another figuring we’d learned from the first one. They did better at first but within weeks had also let us down. We didn’t bother trying a third agency. We gave up and did our best as a family until he needed hospice care.
To say it was a tough time for us is an understatement, and we couldn’t be the only families who had similar experiences. Undoubtedly thousands of others have and would as well. But from this experience we learned something about ourselves: we discovered our passion for service. Our purpose is preserving quality of life with love and compassion. From this moment, an idea was born.
We started Sandcastle Homecare a couple years later out of a tiny closet-sized office at an art studio. Today, we have multiple offices around the State of Florida and employ over a thousand people. Since day one we have been driven to transform the home care landscape for seniors. The trick to our success is simple: do for each client what you would expect for your mom or dad. It’s really that simple!
